Asbestos Exposure Lawsuit
An asbestos exposure lawsuit refers to the compensatory claim of an individual who caught a terminal lung disease (usually one of the following: pleural thickening which results to breathlessness, asbestosis which causes excessive coughing, lung cancer and mesothelioma) during employment to a company who got him wrongly exposed to asbestos, against that company. Since asbestos' hazardous properties were discovered in the late 1980s, local governments have been strict in implementing guidelines about the use of the substance. This gives those who still got excessively exposed to asbestos during employment despite tough parliament warnings, clear grounds for a lawsuit. If asbestos exposure occurred during employment under a military or civilian Federal agency, such a lawsuit is still possible to file. The compensation claim under this case will be covered under the Federal Employees' Compensation Program. Also, individuals who caught an asbestos-related disease “privately” may also file a case against the manufacturer of the asbestos product they think was responsible for the exposure.
Asbestos exposure lawsuits are among the most expensive mass torts in the country today. Apart from the fact that pushing for such a lawsuit requires real money, compensation for asbestos claims also involve large sums of dollars. Generally speaking, the compensation ranges from one to three million dollars.
